Fund longform journalism and creative nonfiction that outlasts the noise.
In a world of algorithms and endless feeds, it’s easy to think that thoughtful longform writing is an endangered species. At Longreads, we refuse to believe that. We’re proud to publish and curate nonfiction storytelling written by humans, for humans.
But we need your help. Please consider signing up for a Longreads membership—and join the readers who believe depth still matters.
The funds we raise go directly to our authors. Recurring supporters (those who donate monthly or annually) will receive our weekly Top 5 newsletter and will be first in line for new membership perks we’re developing. Those who make a one-time donation of $50 or more will receive our Top 5 and other benefits for the period of one year.
By becoming a member, you’ll help us continue to publish stories that stay with you, long after you close the tab.
Give stories the space they deserve. Give writers a chance to go long.
Longreads has curated nearly 14,000 stories in the past 16 years and published hundreds of original pieces. Our publication has been nominated for four National Magazine Awards (and have won one for our digital illustration work), has been honored with a Canadian National Magazine Award (Gold), and has been cited for digital excellence by the Online News Association and Peabody Awards. Our podcast series Bundyville, produced in partnership with Oregon Public Broadcasting, was named one of the best podcasts of 2018 and won an Edward R. Murrow Award in 2020.
Dozens of Longreads essays have been included or notably mentioned in The Best American Essays, The Best American Food Writing, The Best American Science and Nature Writing, The Best American Travel Writing, and The Year’s Best Sports Writing anthologies. Recent stories have been recognized with Pushcart Prizes, won ASJA Awards, or have been a finalist in the James Beard Awards, among other notable mentions.
We nurture new voices and give seasoned storytellers the room to roam:
